  • " Call from Above ", Oil on canvas, © 2008, 36" x 48".

    Notes on the painting:

It might appear that I spend all my time looking downward at the reflections of things, but it's an unfair assessment. Sometimes I spend time gazing upwards. I particularly like the patterns that the branches and leaves make, layered one upon another with the sky peaking through. The maze of branches in this modern art nature painting the patterns remind me of Moorish architecture.
  • " Cross Country ", Oil on canvas, © 2008, 48" x 60".

    Notes on the painting:

I started thinking about all the places I had ever lived, and all the places my parents had lived and all the places my grandparents lived-thought I would make a map of those places but instead made a map of North American still thinking about the many trips I had made back and forth across the country then surrounded by water and the map with concentric circles on it and boats floating on both land and sea. I kept looking at the painting and decided to glaze it with Pthalo green and then I looked at the contemporary landscape painting some more and knew I needed to have a way of looking at the map and water and boats through branches.
  • " Mapping the World ", Oil on canvas, © 2008, 40" x 30".
  • " Jump off the Cliff ", Oil on Paper, © 2008, 30" x 66".

    Notes on the painting:

Jump off the cliff was once part of "Cast at sea; a grey day", but when the barge appeared in the sky, Jump off a cliff took on a life of it's own. Although this large wall art painting was completed while I was in Vermont, the image was from some photographs that I had taken on a foggy day out by Tennessee Valley, in Marin County, CA. Once it was on it's own, it reminded me of someone I had once loved who took his life when he jumped off a cliff.
  • " One April Morning ", Acrylic on Board, © 2008, 10" x 8".

    Notes on the painting:

I was sitting outside my house on the glider, painting the thicket of trees and enjoying the abstract patterns of the overlay of branches and leaves in this contemporary landscape painting .
  • " Rainy Day in Johnson ", Oil on Board, © 2008, 8" x 10".
  • " One Evening some time ago ", Oil on Board, © 2008, 10" x 8".

    Notes on the painting:

I used to live in the town of Larkspur on a hilly street from which I could see across the water that separated Marin County from the East Bay. One late summer evening the sky was all golden and spilling onto the trees; magical, inspiriing me to paint this modern art nature painting.
  • " On the River bank ", Oil on Board, © 2008, 12" x 8".
  • " Cast at Sea; a grey day ", Oil on Paper, © 2008, 30" x 66".

    Notes on the painting:

Cast at Sea: a grey day was once a larger painting. At one time "Jump off a cliff" and Cast at sea were one. But the barge appeared in the sky and somehow that was the defining point where th is modern art nature painting that had been one became two.
