In the winter of 2009-10, there were a series of powerful rain storms. And as we all know, in the winter, it gets dark early. So on the days that I came home from work and couldn’t get myself to drive over to my Studio, I started a series of small gouaches. I had taken a number of photographs on walks that I take on the Corte Madera creek, and selected one which I worked from, and then upon completion of that painting, I gridded the photograph and loosely worked from that grid, utilizing a section of the photograph, but blowing it up.
