When I’m 94
Yesterday there was a news article about Carmen Herrera, a 94 year Cuban born artist who is finally getting recognition for her work. Her intentions for making work was the work itself, (according to the article), not the marketplace and not for fame. She just continued to paint.
It’s the “holiday” season, and while I love visiting with friends and family, looking at the lights etc., the holidays are an interruption to the the studio process. As I gave a very large bash over the weekend, I was a bit slowed down from my normal studio work. But now am back on track.
Last week was contacted by the Ross Valley Winery and will be showing a piece there (Beyond the Bay) in their January 14th show; was accepted into the Bay Area Visual Arts Registry; have a piece in Sylvia White’s 30th Anniversary show (Sailing on Land) and sold a piece (Origins). But most of all, I’ve been working in the studio.
While I do need to do other things other than working in the studio, working in the studio is my bloodlife. Hopefully I will be able to maintain my physical and mental health to continue when I’m 94. And for the moment I am working as an abstract landscape artist.
