    Maintaining a connection

One of the things that I find most difficult when preparing for Open Studios or for any show is maintaining a connection to my work as my focus shifts from process to business. It’s just one of those things

So I try to stay connected by sneaking in a visit to a museum or making a mental note of the way the water sparkles on the marsh as I drive home from my morning swim. Sometimes I wonder if my regular swim is the connecting force to my perpetuation of paintings that include water as I make my way through the landscape.

The details that need to be taken care of on the business side of the art making process are as encompassing as the details of the actual process of painting and mental perambulating. Still, I have no complaints, I’m grateful for being able to paint and give something of my perspective to those that receive it.
