    Interview on Patch

    Thursday, October 28th, 2010

My studio is located in an old school building, the Isabel Cook Building on 1000 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., in San Anselmo, CA. During the summer Linda Kane Parker interviewed fellow artists in the building, Kathleen Lipinski and Wendy Goldberg and they were posted on the online Fairfax-San Anselmo “Patch,” news. Yesterday, the interview that [...]

Seasons, weather and the great unwinding

    Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

The last few weeks it has become darker in the early morn, and darker earlier in the evening. This week in Marin County, CA, it’s become cooler, the light has changed and green leaves are turning cadmium yellow, indian red and burnt umber. People are having trouble sleeping. Last night I had trouble sleeping, and [...]

    Remembering the reasons

    Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

It is always good for the soul of someone who uses Nature as a jumping off point for their personal meanderings to make sure that they get out and back to the source itself-back to nature, the place where it all began.

    Groundhog day

    Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

I’m a Bill Murray fan and have always loved his 1993 movie, “Groundhog day,” where he as a weatherman is doomed to repeat the same day of his life over and over again until he gets it right. This concept can be applied to all kinds of situations albeit a somewhat futile attempt-since we really [...]

The problem with so called branding

    Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

I usually wake up about 5:15 in the morning but this mornng I woke up closer to 5:45, and a good thing too becuase waking up a bit later allowed me to remember a dream. Dreams have always held a place in an artists life, whether they were a figurative artist, a history painter, an [...]

I’ve recently attended some shows at The De Young Museum, The SFMOMA and The Legion of Honor-all shows are in San Francisco. The first of these shows was the Birth of Impressionism, at the De Young in Golden Gate Park. This show is from the collection of the Musee d’Orsay and is in two parts; [...]

    Wandering into new Territory

    Friday, August 13th, 2010

Sometimes I don’t know what I am feeling until I see it. I’ve been working on a new painting for a while now and have discovered some old feelings that were really there all along but somehow I just didn’t recognize them. Painting can be not just about what you see and how you apply [...]

One with Nature: En Plein Air Workshop

    Friday, August 6th, 2010

Besides teaching my Drawing and Painting Workshop, I’m also teaching a Plein Air Class. Plein just means that you are painting outdoors. Class starts September 11th and runs through October 16th, Saturdays from 9:15-12 noon. Plein Air painting is an entirely different experience from working in the studio in that the light is always changing, [...]
