How we chose to live
No doubt about it, we're living in peculiar times. Starting in 2016 the things that I have held dear seem to have rolled down the road like tumbleweed blowing directly in the hot flames of a wild fire. And so here we are, all of us trying to live our lives as if somehow everything is the same as it ever was. But it isn't. So how does anyone, and how what does an artist do to make what they do seem relevant to anything?
I finished teaching my Drawing Workshop in March, completed a couple of paintings and then prepared for Marin Open Studios which has now come and gone. I had a few sales for which I am grateful and several good conversations of some kind of depth with various studio visitors, and then I was facing a room filled with paintings. Yesterday I took down an entire wall of paintings so I could not have the paintings looking back at me in some kind of accusatory way, saying "okay, you made me, now what are you going to do about it?"
So now I have a blank wall on one side of the studio and some canvases in wait until I come back from my trip to Colorado where I will see my daughter and her family and be embraced in the moment into the stew of life. I'll come back to the blank wall and the blank canvases asking me now what?
